Councillor Melvin Cohen to be named next Mayor of Barnet
Tuesday, 05 March 2013
CONSERVATIVE councillor Melvin Cohen is set to be named Barnet’s next mayor at a full council meeting tonight.
The Golders Green ward member was chosen to replace Mill Hill councillor Brian Schama at a Conservative Group meeting last week.
Mr Cohen was mayor between 2003 and 2004, and will be the first Barnet councillor in 30 years to have held the position twice, after Tory councillor Vic Usher held the role in 1969-70 and 1982-83.
Mr Cohen is due to be named Mayor-Elect at Tuesday’s meeting at Hendon Town Hall in The Burroughs, Hendon at 7pm.
