'Fund our community events' say Barnet library volunteers

Volunteers are appealing for cash to help them run a Barnet library.

Local charities Barnet Mencap and Kisharon have teamed up to take over Childs Hill library in Cricklewood Lane.

They have set up a crowdfunding campaign, to raise funds for the site which they started to run in April.

Mencap fundraising co-ordinator Zofia Wojcik said: “Since the library is almost completely run by volunteers we need to seek funding for any improvements we would like to make. And we do have a number of ideas on how to make this place better!

“Our main idea is to transform it into a community space which would benefit everyone living in a close proximity as we would run film nights, provide space for workshops, create children corner with Lego and storytelling mornings and organise lots of picnics and other events for everyone from the community.”

Other projects will include running workshops for the unemployed. The volunteers are looking to raise about £6,500 and their crowdfunding appeal can be found at https://www.spacehive.com/childshilllibraryproject
