Potters Bar Town Football Club and students at Middlesex University are among groups in the Barnet area which have rallied in support of victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

The football club held a collection at its premises in Watkins Rise from where items were delivered to victims in a van donated by cleaning products supplier Pakex (UK) Plc.

Football club chairman Peter Waller appealed for residents to donate clothes. He said: “We we will donate to the residents who have lost everything.”

Meanwhile, students from the university’s Islamic and Arab societies have been volunteering at community centres as well as donating blood, food, clothes and money.

Student Sabren Amin said: “As sad as the situation was it’s incredibly heart-warming to see people from all backgrounds and walks of life come together and give all the support that they could.”

Pupils from Whitefield School near Brent Cross were among those who formed a human chain to hand out supplies at Westway shopping centre near to the scene of the huge fire, in the 24-storey tower block, in North Kensington.
