Shaftesbury Barnet’s women’s team make their mark in the throwing events

THE throwing events proved to be a huge source of points for the senior women’s team at Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers as they finished fifth in the latest Premier Division meeting of the United Kingdom Women’s Athletics League in Eton.

The javelin provided the highlight of the day for the club as they enjoyed a double victory, with Jo Blair taking the A-string (52.47metres) and Bethan Rees emerging triumphant in the B-string (44.35m).

Jade Lally won the A-string discus (56.07m), with Shadine Duquemin coming second in the B-string (47.55m), and there were third-placed finishes in the throwing events for Philippa Davenall in the A-string hammer (56.03m) and Urina Harrell in the A-string shot (14.88m).

Elsewhere, there were victories for Tara Kafke in the B-string 400m (55.54seconds) and Naomi Taschimowitz in the A-string 3,000m (9minutes 25.75secs), while Emma Anderson was joint second in the A-string pole vault (3.90m) and Philippa Aukett came third in the B-string 800m (2mins 13.49secs).
