Uncapped Saracens trio named in England squad

THREE uncapped Saracens players have been named in the England squad for this summer’s tour to Argentina.

With numerous key players unavailable as a result of their selection for the British and Irish Lions, the England squad has a somewhat experimental feel to it, and lock Nick Isiekwe, fly-half Alex Lozowski and wing Nathan Earle are among those to have benefited from this by being called up.

Isiekwe, who turns 19 today, only made his first Premiership start in the dramatic win over Northampton on Sunday, while Earle – who like Isiekwe is a graduate of Sarries’ academy – has scored five tries in seven starts this season.

“I feel very shocked, it’s been a good week for me,” Isiekwe said. “I’m a bit speechless to be honest but I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead in terms of physical and mental preparation.

“It’s a big achievement and hopefully I can learn as much as I can and pick up as much experience as I can and just really knuckle down. I’m very happy for the other Sarries lads involved in the squad and it’s an amazing achievement for them as well to be recognised in this way.

“The rugby we’ve played up to this point has been at a different intensity but all the things we’ve learned around the game will be put into fruition when the time comes.

“I’m joined by some good company who I can learn a lot from. They have a lot of wisdom and I can’t wait to learn from them and hopefully it will make me a better rugby player.”

Earle added: “It’s a bit crazy, I’m a bit taken aback at the call obviously. But I’m very happy. Hopefully I get a chance in the tests but I just want to train hard and train well then, fingers crossed, I get picked.

“I want to learn how to act in that environment and what’s expected of us to get to stay in that environment for a long-period of time.

“There are players who’ll be there who have 50-plus caps, so they’ll be good people to learn off and hopefully they can help me be there for a long time.”

Lozowski has made a huge impact since joining the club from Wasps last summer and has been involved in the England squad this season, but he is still waiting to make his international debut.

Lozowski said: “I’m really happy to be in the squad, having been part of the squad during the autumn and then during the Six Nations without getting a chance to play I suppose it’s exciting to get another chance in the squad and hopefully put my hand up to get some game time.

“Also, I think it’s thoroughly deserved for Nick and Nathan. They’re young and exciting, talented players.

“There’s lots to be gained from the environment and I think the period we’ll spend away is going to be good with a bunch of other good players who we’ll be able to pick things up from.”

However, there is no place in the squad for full-back Alex Goode.
