Colindale mum does it in style by starting her own fashion label

By Dave Speck in Local People

A MUM-of-two who started her own fashion label after going on an 11-week business start-up course is already receiving great feedback about her products.

Charlotte Lemonte 34, from Colindale’s Grahame Park Estate, started the label Hummbirks which sells matching mens’ socks and ties over the internet.

She said: “My advice for other people thinking about starting up a business is to just go for it. Don’t be scared. It’s your idea so just do it or you’ll regret it.

“When my stock arrived it was such a highlight for me to have it in my hand after all the work I had put in."

Charlotte, who has a design background, learned skills such as product development and how to do cost sheets and cash flow on the course run by Enterprise Cube, part of Genesis Housing Association.

A Genesis spokeswoman said: “She is channelling a lot of energy into her business while looking after two children and working part-time, so it’s quite an achievement.

“The brand was launched last year and is already sparking interest and great feedback from retailers and customers. Charlotte now plans to expand her product range and is contacting retailers, stylists and bloggers to get the word out.”
