School children in Edmonton kept home following suspected arson attack

PUPILS at an Enfield school have been kept home today following a suspected arson attack that destroyed part of the ground floor of their primary.

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze at Churchfield Primary School, Latymer Road, that broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A post on the school’s website, dated yesterday (Sunday) said: “Due to a fire Churchfield Primary School will be closed on Monday February 6. Further updates to follow.”

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade confirmed that three fire engines and 18 fire fighters and officers were called to the Edmonton fire.

He said: “The fire damaged part of the ground floor and the building’s external first floor timber cladding.

“The Brigade were called at 5:13 in the early hours of Sunday morning and was under control at 8:05am. Crews from Edmonton and Enfield fire stations attended the incident.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Met Police.”
