Don't miss Barnet Ben's party with Paddy

MILLIONS of viewers will see 31-year-old Ben Phillips from Barnet as he tries to get a date on ITV1’s Take Me Out tomorrow night.

Ben, who is a stage hypnotist and magician, of Claremont Way, near Brent Cross, is sworn to secrecy as to whether he gets a date on the show which was pre-recorded in November.

But he admitted that a few of the girls do turn off their lights when they find out his hobby is “writing lists.”

He said: “Some guys just want loads of girls to choose from at the end but I just want girls to know roughly who I am and still want to get to know me better.”

Ben said the show, filmed on a Monday, took ten hours to prepare, during which time contestants received make-overs and rehearsed with Paddy and the stage management team. Meanwhile, the 30 girls got through “thousands of cans of hair spray,” said Ben.

He added: “You don’t know a single thing about any of the girls when you come down in that lift and if you do get a date to Fernando’s you will only have heard your date say two or three sentences.

“They film a lot more than you see on TV so for every quick-witted comment there are a few that don’t make the cut.”

Ben, who was head-hunted for the show after being on a list of variety performers, said producers were increasingly looking for men with quirky personalities rather than just tough, strong-man types.

He added: “I practised my entrance solidly for two days because for me this is business as much as it is fun. I need the publicity off the back of it.”

Ben said appearing on the show was a “huge life event” but he is no stranger to TV after also appearing on Countdown (2004), The National Lottery People’s Quiz (2007), and The Chase (2012), among other shows.

The pychology graduate, who is a former pupil of Christ’s College secondary school, East Finchley, and Woodhouse Sixth Form College, in North Finchley, is due to film for another appearance on Countdown on Tuesday of next week.

Ben’s lists include his top 250 songs and his top 100 musical individuals, of which number one is Elvis.

With the stage name Ben Dali , he also does pub quizzes, kids’ birthday parties, stand-up comedy and DJ-ing and is available for bookings. Visit
